Message from the President

Dear RAMA Members,

As summer winds to a close, I am grateful for the patience of so many people in my leisurely preparations for a newsletter, next year’s programs, and calendar. We have so many exciting opportunities and events to look forward to!

I am honored to participate in this upcoming year’s program planning, and in particular, to become better acquainted with all of you. I am particularly indebted for the support and advice from past leaders; clearly, this organization survives and will thrive from long-term investments.

To let you know a bit about me: my husband is Jamie Urso, an Interventional Radiologist, we have 2 children (Madeline, age 11, and Nate, age 9), and we live in Midlothian, Virginia. I am working in medical marketing presently, but formerly practiced as a Patent Attorney. I grew up in South Carolina, and attended Washington & Lee University (undergraduate) and the University of Pittsburgh (law). I enjoy cooking, gardening, and learning new things!

Many of this year’s events will focus on the beneficiaries of our Antique Show/Foundation fundraising. The presentation from Deb Love will enlighten our membership about “Access Now,” a program that facilitates specialty care for the underinsured. A subsequent theme will be to focus on our own (very important!) initiative that currently provides Sexual Assault Crisis Kits (SACKS) to local area hospitals. We will also meet Nancy Langston, Dean of VCU’s School of Nursing—a beneficiary of much-needed nursing scholarship funding.

Finally, we need to have fun and grow as a group. Some of the programs focus on fashion, food/wine, and skin care—we work hard, and should take care of ourselves! We should remember to replenish ourselves, so that we have something to give to others.

I am grateful for your support; I hope that this year’s events promote current member participation and new member development. My goals are to contribute to the growth of this worthy organization, and honor those who’ve led us here.

Thank you for your support, please come to the meetings—and bring potential members too!
